Our recent study in collaboration with Prof. Bastmeyer (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Visiting Professor of CiMPhy), “Mechanical stimulation of single cells by reversible host-guest interactions in 3D microscaffold” was published in Science Advances.
This collaborative work was carried out in the framework of HeKKSaGOn alliance and MEXT Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas.

Prof. Tanaka along with Prof. Hatsuda (iTHEMS director, RIKEN) and Prof. Sakajo (Dept. Mathematics & SACRA, Kyoto Univ.) organized the 2nd KUIAS-Heidelberg-RIKEN joint workshop “Medical Sciences and Mathematical Sciences” online.
The workshop brough together more than 200 people from various scientific backgrounds.
Drs. Suzuki and Yamamoto gave talks.

PhD students in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe who performed research in Japan, 12 internship students from Japan (Nakatani RIES Program), and 2 medical students (Kyoto University) were invited to the WD meeting.
He also presented past achievements and future visions of the WG at the plenary session.

The theme of our study group is “Developing mathematical models to understand collective cellular behaviors in dieseases”（「疾患における集団的細胞挙動の数理モデルの開拓」）and will bring together students from various disciplines to tackle a new, interdisciplinary field.
